How to post on social media without spending hours
Pick two or three places your customers actually look, make posts from a few templates, write a week of posts in one sitting, line them up in a scheduling tool, and check replies at set times. Here is how to set it up with social media tools we list.
Steps
- Pick two or three places to post. You do not need every app. Choose the places your customers already look, such as Facebook, Instagram or your Google Business Profile, and skip the rest for now. Fewer channels also keeps the bill down on tools priced per channel, like Buffer.
- Make a few templates you reuse. Set up three to five post designs with your logo and colors, such as a before-and-after photo, a customer review, a seasonal tip and a "we are hiring" post. Canva lists templates and brand kits on its listing. After that, each new post is a photo and a line of text, not a design job.
- Keep a running list of post ideas. Write ideas down as they come, like a job you just finished, a common question a customer asked or a tip for the season. Buffer lists 100 ideas on its Free plan and unlimited on paid plans. Snap photos on the job (with the customer's OK) so you always have something to post.
- Write a week of posts in one sitting. Set aside one block of time each week and write all of the posts at once. AI tools can draft captions and ideas: Buffer lists an AI Assistant on every plan, Later lists AI credits for ideas and captions, and Predis.ai and Ocoya generate posts from your input. Read and edit every AI draft before it goes out, and never post a price, promise or claim you have not checked.
- Line them up in a scheduling tool. Load the week into one scheduler so posts go out on their own. Buffer lists Google Business Profile as a channel, Later lists scheduling for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and more, and Hootsuite Standard covers up to 10 social accounts from one calendar. Watch the post limits: Buffer's Free plan holds 10 scheduled posts per channel and Later Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month.
- Be careful with automatic posting. Some tools can post for you without a click. Predis.ai Rise lists AI auto posting of up to 2 posts a day per brand that can be reviewed before publishing. Turn on review before anything goes live, so nothing posts with a wrong price or a photo you did not mean to share.
- Answer comments and messages at set times. Check replies once or twice a day instead of all day. Hootsuite lists one inbox for messages, Later lists a social inbox on Growth, and Buffer lists a community inbox. Answer questions and thank people for reviews, and move real job requests into your normal quote process.
- Look at what worked once a month. Once a month, check which posts got comments, calls or messages and make more like those. Buffer, Later and Hootsuite all list analytics. Try a tool on its free plan or trial first and note the trial terms: Ocoya and Predis.ai need a card to start theirs.
