Sync Square Appointments with Google Calendar
Let busy Google Calendar events block your Square booking times, and send Square appointments to Google Calendar. Built in, set up from Square Dashboard. Steps checked against the vendor's help article on 2026-10-26 (article last updated 2026-04-23).
We built this guide from Square Support Center: Sync your Google Calendar with appointments. We haven't run this setup in our own business yet, so follow the vendor's article if anything on screen looks different.
What you need
- A Square Appointments Plus or Premium subscription, or Square Plus or Premium with advanced bookings capabilities added. Square's article lists this as who the feature is for, so check your plan first.
- To be the account owner, or a team member with the appointments permission to change appointment settings
- A Google account with the Google Calendar you want to link
Steps
- Open appointment settings. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Appointments. Click Settings, then Calendar & booking.
- Start the link. Under Manage calendar sync, click Link Google Calendar.
- Allow Google access. Sign in to your Google account and allow access on the calendar you want to link to Square Appointments.
- Choose a linking option. Pick Import and Export (Google events come into Square and Square bookings go out to Google), Import Only, or Export Only.
- Match the calendars. Select the Google Calendar to import and the Square Appointments staff calendar where the imported Google events will appear, then click Continue.
- Finish. Your calendars start linking. Click Continue again. Square says syncing is usually instant but can take up to three minutes for a very busy calendar.
Limits to know
- Imported Google events come in as personal or "quick block" events, not appointments, so they get no client notifications or reminders. Busy events block booking time; free events import but don't block it.
- Only appointments go out to Google Calendar, and only personal events come in from Google. A personal event you create in Square won't show in Google.
- Edit each event in the calendar where it was made. Square advises against adding events to the synced appointments calendar from Google, because a re-sync deletes them.
- With several locations, an imported Google event blocks that staff member at every location.
- The sync covers events from one month back to two years ahead. If events stop matching, use Refresh Calendar or Remove Calendar from the menu next to the synced calendar under Manage calendar sync.
Using Square Point of Sale for bookings? Square's article says bookings mode has to be turned on in the Square Point of Sale app.
