Review requests and repeat-business emails after the job

Two automatic messages do most of the work after a job: a review request a day or so after you finish, and a check-in when the next service is likely due. Here is how to set both up with tools we list. The timing is a starting point, not a proven formula.

Steps

  1. Pick the trigger: job marked complete. Make "job complete" (or "invoice paid") the moment that starts your after-the-job messages, so nobody has to remember to send them. Markate lists review requests after job completion, and NiceJob, GatherUp and Podium can send requests automatically from your customer list.
  2. Ask for the review within a day or two. Send a short text or email: thank them by name, mention the job in a few words, and give one link straight to your Google review page. One clear link works better than a list of sites to choose from.
  3. Send one reminder, then stop. If they have not left a review, one friendly reminder a few days later is enough. NiceJob lists automated follow-ups on review requests and Podium lists review reminders. Do not keep asking after that.
  4. Keep it honest. Ask every customer, not just the ones you think are happy, and do not offer anything in exchange for a review. Check the review site's own rules before you run any promotion around reviews.
  5. Set up the repeat-business reminder. For work that comes back on a schedule (seasonal service, maintenance, cleaning), set a reminder for when the next visit is likely due. ServiceM8 lists Recurring Jobs on all plans, NiceJob Pro lists Repeats to win back past customers, and Markate lists automated follow-ups for repeat business.
  6. Test it on yourself and check monthly. Mark a test job complete with your own phone and email to see exactly what goes out. Each month, check how many requests turned into reviews and how many past customers booked again, and change one message at a time.
